This week did not disappoint after a great month for rookies ended on Tuesday. So many milestones being reached and it's crazy to remember that everyone here is playing in their FIRST season. Hope you enjoy some great performances from this week!
The February Rookie of the Month now leads all rookies with 32 goals, after scoring two goals this week vs. teams in different places (Minnesota and Colorado). He also leads all rookies with 58 points due to the two assists that he added with those goals.
Fun Facts: Laine has the most points ever by an 18 year old European rookie in the NHL (the previous? Jagr. No big deal...).
Laine has the most goals by a rookie since Evgeni Malkin scored 33 in 2006-07. Looks like that will be topped.
Laine tied Jarri Kurri for most goals by a Finnish rookie and is now second on that list. The first? Teemu Selanne with 76. He has a way to go before he becomes the next Finnish Flash.
He is also tied for sixth place among most goals by an 18 year old. The players before? Brian Bellows (35), Jimmy Carson (37), Sidney Crosby (39), Steve Yzerman (39), and Dale Hawerchuk (45).
Welcome back to Marner, who returned after missing 5 games due to a shoulder injury. In his 3 games this week on the West Coast, Marner had 2 assists, getting him to 50 points (15 G, 35 A). Marner now has the second most points by a Leafs teenage rookie and follows behind his own teammate, Auston Matthews.
Fun Fact: Remember that rap video about Auston Matthews from last week? Marner told the press that he plays it in his car. Ah, athletes, they're just like us.
Nylander, just like Marner, had two assists this week in the Pacific Coast. Nylander only has 5 more points to go to hit the 50 points mark and join his teammates on that high level. The only problem is that he's not a teenager... Oh well.
Fun Fact: Newly acquired Maple Leaf Eric Fehr said that the last time he saw Nylander was when he was 12 years old and playing with his dad (Fuhr's former teammate in Washington).
Tkachuk is third in scoring at 42 points (12 G, 30 A). His 12th goal came against the Red Wings on Friday. That goal moved him into third place in scoring for teenage Flames rookies behind Jarome Iginla (50) and Dan Quinn (54). He is projected to pass them by TSN with 56 points, and we hope he does that and more.
Fun Fact: Tkachuk has the most NHL fighting majors out of anyone on this list, and he only has two.
Point had a spectacular February with 5 goals and 3 assists in 10 games played. Keep in mind that he had only 4 goals before February happened and also missed some of the season. Point was +6 that month and played a good role in Tampa's 6-4 record that month. Tamp still has a way to go in the race for the last Atlantic spot, being behind Florida and Toronto to take out Boston from the playoffs.
Fun Fact: Point is 5-for-7 in shootouts and is beloved by fans for his heroics.
