Good morning, hockey fans!!!
Tonight at 8 pm ET is the all or nothing game for Team Europe! Will they continue to give Canada a hard time? Or will Canada do the unthinkable and go to a different gear? If they do, we need to put on protective goggles because that will be too powerful for the naked eye to see. Oh no! Someone skipped eleven! Sorry about that but life happens sometimes... Or in Europe's case, Canada happens. Is Canada real life? No, Canada is not real life, it is only a dream -or nightmare for some. Game TwoBoth teams can enjoy this off day because it will give them time to evaluate what went wrong or what they need to strengthen. Yes, even Canada has things they need to work on but they are probably minor things that only a coach or player would notice, like below. Hope you enjoy tomorrow's game because it could either be the last or the beginning of a war in October.
Just wow. How many times do we have to warn you about Europe?? I even needed to be warned because I doubted them! And of course Sweden is good because their roster was stacked with the best players in the NHL (not from Canada). This was a great test for the intimidating Team Canada and I think they are prepared for them. Upcoming ScheduleYou better prepare yourself for the storm coming! The team from the Great North will take on an entire continent! Does it really take an entire continent to take down Canada? We shall see tomorrow! Injury Report: Team Europe's Marian Gaborik is out for the rest of the tournament (foot injury) and will be out for 8 weeks (sorry, Kings fans!).
Great job, Canada!! For those who find football unappealing or your game is on later, you can tune in to ESPN at 1 pm ET to watch Europe vs. Sweden! Who will be on the ice?No injuries=happiness!
*knocks on wood* Hope we all stay healthy today! Good morning and welcome to the elimination stage of the World Cup! There will be no survivors and no surrenders!! Today will be the match up between Russia and host country Canada, otherwise known as the repeat of the 1972 Summit Series!! Canada famously beat the USSR 4-3-1 (yes, they allowed a tied game). The final game of the series featured the shot heard 'round the world goal by Paul Henderson, the unlikely Canadian hero. Will we get to see a repeat of this tonight?? Maybe but we know for sure that we get to see Crosby vs. Ovechkin before the NHL season begins. What a treat. Team CanadaAdvantages: Home crowd (that is a given) Flawless record Outscore opponents in the first period Great defense (10 for 10 on the penalty kill) Only have trailed in three games for a collective 1:29 Almost every is contributing offensively (16 out of 20 have at least one point) It would be nice to have Crosby and those fans on your side. You can't spell side without sid. Disadvantages: Could be overconfident (no one is truly perfect but they are darn close to it) May have trouble with Russia (went into OT in pre tournament play but still won) Team RussiaAdvantages: Excels at must win situations (needed to beat North America and Finland to stay alive) Vladimir Tarasenko (2 game winners so far) Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has a 95 SV% Great second period team (5 out of 6 goals were in the middle period) Trying to prove themselves Disadvantages: Their fans are mostly in Russia! (Canadian fans are only the best, if you're Canadian) Cannot score in the first period Almost blew the game to North America Pavel Datsyuk may not play Don't Forget! The game starts at 7 pm ET!!
Well... here's what is important for the upcoming days.
If you have not noticed, Russia won their game against Finland today and eliminated Team North America. I guess we have to say goodbye to Finland (they knew it was coming) and to North America (completely blind-sided since their early mistakes against Russia cost them in the long run). That is all for now and we look forward to seeing Crosby vs. Ovechkin in the World Cup! Reminder: If Russia wins, they will advance to the semi finals and eliminate North America. The game between U.S. and Czech Republic is just a farewell game for both teams since both teams in the group advanced to the semis. If you want to say goodbye to your favourite players, go ahead! This game will not be stressful so might as well enjoy it! Yesterday's HighlightsNo rest for Sweden and Canada as they take on North America and Europe! Will they be too tired to win? No way! They're the best professionals in their country! They can do it all! Thoughts: Holy shoot!! The U.S. is gone!!!! Who would've thought it would have been that early?! Sorry to make a pun but that was QUICK. And Sweden took out its rival too?! Will we see a 2014 Sochi Olympics rematch? Or will surprise teams like Team Europe or Team North America crash the party? So many questions but very few answers for now. Latest NewsSweden will advance to the semifinals after OT loss to North America.
North America will advance only if Russia loses to Finland tomorrow. If Russia wins, North America is eliminated and they advance. Loser of the current game between Europe and Canada will play Sweden in the semis. It's Rivalry Night in Toronto! Good news for Swedish/ Ranger/hockey fans, Henrik Lunqvist is hoping to return today! The North American rivalry will also feature longtime foes and will definitely be good to watch. Sit back and enjoy a great night of rivals and good hockey. Projected LinesYesterday's ScoresThoughts: The North America game featured a fantastic comeback but unfortunately they were unable to complete it. After watching the game, I feel that John Gibson should start for them because he had a shutout when he came in for Murray in the second.
I did not get to watch the Europe and Czech game but from the looks of it, it looked like a good game. I think people should start to take Europe more seriously if they haven't already. Those were my thoughts and I hope you enjoyed them! |
ThoughtOne century of this game and League is a wonderful milestone to celebrate. Let's hope to do this in the next century! Archives
