Congratulations to Auston Matthews on being selected first in the draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs! We all saw this coming but this is still big for the organization because they finally got the first pick overall after having the worst record. This is also big for the United States because Matthews is the first American to be selected first since 2007! Good luck this season to all! The First RoundVEGAS BABY!
Las Vegas gets a hockey team! Congrats to the newest team in the Western Conference! Dear Penguins fans, Congratulations on yet another Stanley Cup! I admire the story this season so much because you started the season with extremely high expectations and did not deliver to them right away. Of course, when a team is not as glorious as people thought, they tend to get worried and start blaming whoever they can. The head coach was fired and a new coach was able to take over and try to breathe new life into the team. Then Pascal Dupuis retired early due to his conditions and the season became even sadder. But things changed when Carl Hagelin arrived and thus created HBK, or Hagelin-Bonino-Kessel. Without HBK, the Penguins may have not gone as far into the playoffs or even to the playoffs. The team was rejuvenated and the Sid the Kid that we know came back. They weren't supposed to make the playoffs but they did. They weren't supposed to beat Washington but they did. Tampa Bay almost had them but they didn't. There are so many deserving people on this team. You probably know that already but I just want to talk about the players I admire on this team. Pascal Dupuis deserved this Cup because he did all he could to take away the pain but he had to stop for his family and his health. He still exemplifies a courageous player because he played through that pain until he couldn't anymore. Seeing him lift up that Cup was amazing to say the least. Now, Phil Kessel is among one of my favourites on this team. He did not expect this moment to happen because he is a humble person. He is a great player and he finally found a team that appreciates him and does not put extra pressure on him. He was not the star of the team and he was fine with that. He was able to be an amazing and important key to winning this because he developed great chemistry with his line. He endured so much hate while with Toronto and he did not deserve that. He tried to save them and he wanted them to go far but it was too much for one man to do. Through all that adversity, he found a way out and was able to be successful. There is more to life than the bad times you are experiencing right now. Sidney Crosby is an amazing hockey player. That was obvious but even an amazing player like him was doubted at the beginning of the season. He was not producing like usual but he turned his and his team's season around and look where that took them. He deserves to be with the greats because his leadership took over and took this team out of the dark to the glittering Stanley Cup. With that being said, enjoy the ride because you never know when it will come again. This is your moment and you deserved it all. Dear Sharks Fans,
I am deeply sorry for all of you right now. Your team was also deserving and I wish we can all be winners. You all showed up with the best attitudes and still cheered on your team even after they lost and the season ended. Thank you for showing that California loves hockey. Your team is amazing in how two players from the 1997 Draft Class were still able to produce greatly for the team. They wanted it and the country wanted it for them too. Joe Thornton played like he had never aged and made a strong case for why he deserves the Cup. Patrick Marleau has been with the same team for all these years and it was exciting to see his loyalty pay off in a way. We wanted it to pay off more for him though. This team was not expected to beat the Kings because it was an even year and blah blah blah. You managed to write your own story instead of hearing the same one over and over again. You smashed Nash despite their comeback. You silenced the Blues even after people went against you and rooted for the team that has been around longer. 90s teams can win and go to the Stanley Cup. Californian teams also can win and make people care about hockey in an area that people looked down on. This team will come back next season and can still make a strong case for the Cup. The team is not getting any younger but they proved that age is not that big of an issue. You will recover from this loss. Trust me. It will be a slow process but you shall overcome. I hope to see you next season much happier than you are right now. The best shots from the Web come together here to show you last night's victory: Closing Statement...THE PENGUINS ARE THE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't forget that Game 6 is tonight at 8 pm ET on NBC!
Will the Sharks force a Game 7 or will Pittsburgh crush their chances and their hearts in front of their home crowd? We will see the action unfold in San Jose tonight! Absolute sad news about the passing of Gordie Howe today. We have already lost numerous legends this year and it is very sad to see. I hope his family is doing well and we all send out our thoughts and prayers to them.
Below is an article about him from the IIHF and it is a good read. The Sharks said no to the celebration in Pittsburgh tonight! Thanks to their 4-2 win, they get to enjoy home cooking for one last time and will hope to come back to Pittsburgh very soon...
Pittsburgh on the other hand wants to spoil San Jose's party and end it soon... but, winning at home would be nice so it's a win-win situation (well, if they actually win one of those games). Before we get too ahead, let's just remember that both of these teams are the best in hockey and they have tremendous skill in many different areas. This series has been amazing to watch because the games are nail biters. See you for Game 5!! Pittsburgh has not clinched a championship in a major sport at home since the Pittsburgh Pirates won Game 7 of the World Series against the New York Yankees at Forbes Field in 1960. (Via NHL.com) Will they do this on Thursday night? Tune in to NBC at 8 pm ET to find out!Missed last night's game? Here are the highlights! It's crazy how Joonas Donskoi scored that goal because that was a good one! He sure fooled them! I had a feeling the Sharks would make it interesting at home and there would be more overtime games. Guess I was right... which is good because the series will be more interesting. I don't think Penguins fans should worry though because when they return, it will help them out a lot.
