“Coming into this tournament there was definitely a job that needed to be finished. We approached this game with the right mindset and everything that happened in the past was behind us.” -Carter Hart, Gold Medal-winning goaltender for Canada Congratulations to Team Canada on winning gold and finding their redemption!See you next year in Victoria, British Columbia!
We've made it! Canada gets a shot at redemption in the U.S. while facing a team looking for its third gold medal in World Juniors history. Last time Sweden won the gold was back in 2012 against Russia. They have found themselves in the gold medal game before, but have won the silver 10 times. Maybe today will be their day with their impressive roster. Yesterday's Scores:
“I’m happy with my points, but I think I need to play better and create more chances on five-on-five... I always have high expectations of me. On the power play, we’re playing really well. I feel I’m not – me and our line – creating chances as I want on five-on-five.” -Elias Petterson, Team Sweden Belarus still has the chance to stay alive if they manage to beat Denmark today. They made it close in the last game, so hope remains.
The United States will take on another hockey powerhouse in Sweden. Sweden can ruin the hopes of the U.S. defending their home ice and gold medal with their great team. They are dominant in the preliminary round, but let's see how they do in the semifinal game. Later on today, Canada faces the Czech Republic after beating them 9-0 earlier in the tournament. The Czechs are a better team now and won in a shootout against Finland to get here. They will not mess around and hand this to Canada. "I was watching [when Slovakia won the World junior bronze three years ago] back home, and I was saying to myself, 'I wish I could be playing there one day and be like them.' We are really close to that, but there is still lots of work ahead of us." -Samuel Bucek, Team Slovakia Happy New Year, everyone! The preliminary round is over, and it is now quarterfinal time. Get ready for more exciting matchups and tougher action starting tomorrow. Also, the relegation round begins with Belarus taking on Denmark in a best-of-three series where the winner stays in this group for next year. Yesterday's Scores:
"I’m happy with my role [for Finland]. We have a really good D-corps here, and we can all play in all kinds of situations. So it’s easy for our coaches to put anyone in for PK, power play, whatever. I think it’s really good." -Olli Juolevi, Team Finland It's the last day of 2017, so spend it the right way by watching the 2018 World Juniors! Finland and United States is a good game to watch today, and then when Sweden and Russia's game begins, watch that one as well. Yesterday's Scores: Canada's big win advanced them to the next round, so we will see more of them in the next few days.
