This is great because we've reached Day 8! On Friday, it will already be a week since the start of the tournament. As usual, Canada is on a roll and leads with the best scoring efficiency. Russia is doing well as the host country and soon Ovechkin will join them, which is dangerous. Both of those teams have tomorrow off but the teams that are playing have solid programs, including the Czechs who shut out Norway yesterday (see below). Tomorrow is still a great day to watch! *pssst, new rankings have been released!* Day 7 Scores and HighlightsI'm feeling nice today so I will give you highlights of every game today! Enjoy!! These are the best kind of finals that you will see in May! They are also the only finals that matter... Just kidding! Stay in school, kids!
We still do not know who will face St. Louis but that's okay! Just hold your breath until San Jose or Nashville wins.... For the first time since 2001, St. Louis will be going to the third round. After defeating Dallas 6-1 today, they earned their way into the next round of their historic round. There are now only teams that have never won a Stanley Cup in the Western Conference. Tomorrow will decide which team St. Louis will face.
Day 7!! Technically it has not been a week since the tournament began but it has been 7 days.... There are some heavy hitters on this schedule and it will be good! Day 6 Scores and HighlightsWow! Sweden!! The Pittsburgh Penguins will be joining the Tampa Bay Lightning after defeating the Washington Capitals in a thrilling OT victory. Thrilling is the least I can say because Holtby made some amazing saves for Washington but unfortunately he was unable to carry his team to victory. One of the best highlights was when Beagle threw himself into the net and saved the game for Washington at first. It was devastating to see a team that sacrificed themselves lose like that but at least they went out fighting. Best of luck to the Capitals in the off season. You will be missed. UPDATE: Series against Tampa Bay begins Friday, May 13th at 8 pm ET on NBCSN.
Another game, another destiny! We are sort of in the halfway point in the preliminary rounds but we are almost past it. Hopefully your team is moving on to the next rounds and will not face relegation (we'll talk more about that later). Here is what the beautiful day of May 11th bestows you: More Power Rankings! I like the sarcasm in these especially for the United States. Ouch! Remember that these are from IIHF.com and they are not official. These are someone else's opinion. Day 5 Scores and HighlightsDAHM!!! (Once you watch the video, you'll be saying the same thing too!) At this moment, the Sharks and Predators are going into overtime after Nashville tied it back up. This game is do or die for Nashville and they have home ice advantage right now. If they win, they live to see another game but will go to San Jose. Here we go!!! The Previous Western Showdown...There will be a Game 7 after Dallas defeated St. Louis and lived to see another game! I'm very excited because this is what the playoffs are about! Make sure to watch on Wednesday at 8 pm ET on NBCSN and cheer on your team!
Welcome back!!! I hope you are enjoying the tournament because this is an annual treat. Here's what's going on today/tomorrow morning: Day 4 ScoresO Canada, at least let them leave with some dignity! Canada is on a complete terror right now probably because they were robbed in the World Juniors, Women's Worlds, and NHL Playoffs! At least a Canadian team won the draft lottery but that's the best news so far for Canadian hockey.... **I added video highlights from the YouTube channel!!! So proud of this!! Please enjoy!**
The Lightning are the first to move on! Congratulations to them on moving once again to the Eastern Conference Final! Now let's just sit and wait as Pittsburgh and Washington determine their opponent... (Series is 3-2, Pittsburgh and resumes Tuesday, May 10 at 8 pm ET on NBCSN.)
The Western Conference Final could be determined tomorrow if both Sharks and Blues win. Blues play Stars tomorrow in St. Louis at 8 pm ET on NBCSN; Sharks play Predators in Nashville at 9 pm ET on CNBC. |
ThoughtOne century of this game and League is a wonderful milestone to celebrate. Let's hope to do this in the next century! Archives
