"My mom has such a positive attitude that it's almost impossible to be negative. ... Softball has really been an escape for me during this time. She's positive and responding well, but cancer's cancer. And we're still terrified every day that it might change." -Gwen Svekis
Playoffs are heating up in the second round as we have dwindled down to eight teams! Want to know who are the best left in the league? Today's investigation will show how great each leader in points, goals, assists, and plus-minus are!
Reminder: z-scores calculate how many standard deviations someone is from the average. For each category, 25 players were evaluated in the playoffs and their averages were taken each time. These were calculated before the Western Conference games were concluded last night. "My dream is to have a name in the world of racing, and to make Morocco one of the big names." -Aziza Raji "[Having type-1 diabetes has] made me see life through a different perspective. You only get one life to live. I'm grateful I can still play. I'm still here." -Cate Reese "...coaching is more than coaching skill; it is coaching personalities, understanding personalities and how they mesh with other personalities, and managing them. That is the hardest thing I've found so far." -Lisa Yamasaki "People say basketball is hard and tiring, and I think it's so simple because it's clear that I'm just trying to put a ball into a basket. Life and work is so much harder." -Amanda Renteria "When you're training 20 to 30 hours a week, that's essentially your part-time job. Athletes might surprise themselves -- the fact that they even are an athlete is on résumés...You have a lot more skills than you may give yourself credit for. There are going to be people in the workforce that are impressed." -Laura Marcinek "I love Indiana University, and what happened has put such a damper on my emotions and feelings for the school that I'm supposed to love. I just want them to have accountability and say, 'We screwed up. We are not doing a good job of caring for our athletes -- how we should. We're not diagnosing them quick enough and we're not treating them well enough and we're going to do better.'" -Kaitlin Beck "I'm so proud to be a Puerto Rican. I'm so proud to be a Showtime fighter. I'm just so happy for this moment. Just to be a five-division world champion, I could retire today and be the happiest woman alive." -Amanda Serrano Playoffs have taken over our lives right now in the hockey community and this week's investigation will have hockey once again! A major story this week was Nashville's epic defeat of Chicago. One of the big reasons why this happened was the amazing goaltending performance by Pekka Rinne. Since his performance was so great, today will focus on how great it was by comparing his past playoff games, using only his first four games to make it even and show how great these first four games have been for him. 2010 Playoffs vs. ChicagoSave Percentage in 4 Games: .941 Lost in 6 games. 2011 Playoffs vs. AnaheimSave Percentage in 4 Games: .855 Advanced to second round. 2012 Playoffs vs. DetroitSave Percentage in 4 Games: .924 Advanced to second round. 2015 Playoffs vs. ChicagoSave Percentage in 4 Games: .908 Lost in 6 games. 2016 Playoffs vs. AnaheimSave Percentage in 4 Games: .889 Advanced to second round. 2017 Playoffs vs. ChicagoSave Percentage in 4 Games: .978 Swept them!
