"Stomping means when you come out of a trick and just land super solid. There is no better feeling than stomping a trick or a big air. It just feels like you are the most powerful person in the world." -Elena Hight "Only control what you can control, because there's no way to 100 percent make sure you never let anyone down." -Katelin Snyder "Back in 2013, I vowed to dance again and made a pledge to run the Boston Marathon. I've since danced, and on April 18, 2016, I will make good on that promise." -Adrianne Haslet-Davis "Swimming is one of the sports where a lot of people suffer from body image issues. There were a lot of girls around me growing up that suffered full-blown eating disorders, or just the body dysmorphia that every girl feels -- especially every girl in a swimsuit. There were times when I wasn't happy with my body, but I always knew that I was really fit and that it was what allowed me to be successful in the pool." -Natalie Coughlin "My dad broke my board so I wouldn't skate anymore. I started when I was 9 years old; I was skating with all the guys in my neighborhood, and he was mad at me because I was the only girl in the middle of 10 guys. He smashed my board in front of me and said, "You're not skating anymore, ever again." But he only broke the wood, so after a day I changed the board and used the track and wheels. When he saw that he was like, "Well, there's nothing I can do. I'm going to have to let her skate." After a year, my dad finally took me to a contest and started supporting me." -Leticia Bufoni "Doubt is an ever-present thing, whether you're the best in the world or a developing athlete. I think it's something everyone should admit and learn to deal with. If anyone tells me that they don't doubt themselves, they're totally lying. It's not a shameful thing. You shouldn't be ashamed of working really, really hard and then being worried that it's not going to work." -Jenny Simpson "You know the song "Bulls on Parade" by Rage Against the Machine? It plays in my head right before a hurdle race. It's an internal scream ... just super loud. I might look calm and composed, but I'm screaming on the inside. It's crazy what goes on in there." -Chantae McMillan "I taught Jennifer Lawrence how to shoot for The Hunger Games. I taught her how to stand with the right posture, how to keep her chest down and hold up the bow after your shot and really follow through with the back. I had to give her a crash course every time I saw her. But she did great." -Khatuna Lorig "As a woman, you can't cop out. When I was training for bobsled, I trained with my brother [Vikings DT Fred Evans], Matt Forte, Tim Jennings and a bunch of guys from the Bears. They're like "If you want to train with the big dogs, you better handle it." They made it fun, but competitive. That's what I always liked about their mentality: No matter how hard they can go on the field, off the field it's all love." -Aja Evans "I would love for people to remember me as a hockey player, but I don't think that will happen. I think they're going to remember more the differences I made in (others') lives. ... There's a lot to bringing up the next group, making sure those kids are ready and happy and have all the tools they need to succeed." -Christy Gardner |
AuthorHi, I'm Jenna and I'm a sports fan! I've been avidly watching sports since 2011 because I found that by watching sports, I would be able to communicate with my dad and brother better. Ever since I got into sports, I've been able to enjoy myself more when I go to sporting events with my family. Archives
