Eastern Conference: Yesterday's Scores: Sound the cannons! We lost two teams today! Let's project their names in the sky to remember them. And the Rangers took the lead on the road... Eastern Conference: Back to Bell we go! The home team has the perfect chance to take the series lead with their home crowd behind them. Let's do this! Will this game bring new life again to the Blue Jackets? Or will the Penguins be the first to move on in the East? Western Conference: This game is huge because if Nashville wins, the haters will rejoice and hold this for the rest of the year over the Blackhawks. Think about it... The intense saga continues in Edmonton. I think the Oilers need some nice home cooking to get over that horrible loss on the road. Shark fin soup, anyone? Yesterday's Scores: I said five games and the lie detector determined that it was a lie! Ducks still win and I still chose that! The Flames are the first team to exit and we are very sorry to all fans in Calgary. This year was great for this team and they definitely will get better because they have young, key players. Great job, Minnesota! You live to see another game! That will surely keep their spirits up when they return to the State of Hockey. Nylander did get points in this game but the Capitals came out with the W. Good job to them for holding their lead at the end with well-timed goals. This series continues to be great and underrated like Craig Anderson. Great job on that shutout! Time to go back to the capital city.
Eastern Conference: How about a point from Nylander in this game? Please? Is that too much to ask? Western Conference: Yesterday's Scores: Clinch alerts are now turned off... Sorry, Pens fans... Great job to the Blue Jackets though! Answer to the question in the last post: They can win a playoff game at home! Usually the finished games are put in here but this is already done...
Eastern Conference: Clinch Alert: Penguins can sweep tonight in Columbus. Sad news for Columbus is that Zach Werenski will NOT be available for any playoff games due to his fractured cheekbone after that nasty shot in the previous game. This is definitely a tough loss but Columbus still has a good defense and they will need to continue on. Will the Rangers continue to lose at home? Hopefully not for those fans who came to see their team! But great job to the Canadiens for being so great in the playoffs and having Carey Price in net because that really helps! Western Conference: Expect another great game after Sunday's intense match up that was 1-0. Cam Talbot and Martin Jones are amazing goal tenders who were both on top of their games that night and sadly one of them had to take the loss. Yesterday's Scores: The score reads 3-4... 34... Auston Matthews... Auston Matthews scored his first goal of the playoffs!!!!!!!! Okay. I'm done freaking out. Thanks. Senators win it in Boston despite the energetic crowd and blowing the lead. Let's see if the Senators can continue this great play and return home 3-1.
Even Mondays can't ruin today's games! Why? Because it's the Cup. Eastern Conference: Western Conference: Yesterday's Scores: Two teams in trouble while the other games could still go either way. Yesterday was nothing short of dramatic with an OT game and an amazing defensive game. The playoffs do not take holidays off.
As long as there are rookies, there will be reports. This is definitely more special because this is the perfect time for a rookie to earn their spot on the team if they have not already. It also exposes them to an even tougher layer of the already faster paced game. Here's who shined this week for the rookies: Mitch MarnerThey've waited almost four years for this! Marner scored the first goal of the postseason for the Leafs since Nazem Kadri's goal on May 13, 2013 in their 3-2 loss to the Capitals. Marner becomes the first teenager on the Leafs since Daniel Marois in 1988 to score a goal in the playoffs. He also had an assist in last night's win and now has a point in each game. I guess you could say that he is adjusting well to the playoffs. Almost as well as the next guy... Kasperi KapanenMeet the hero himself who came in from the Toronto Marlies and has played only 17 career games in the NHL. His name probably was familiar to mostly Leafs fans but now it is familiar to Capitals fans and other hockey fans. Kapanen made his name known the right way by scoring two crucial goals in the Leafs big playoff win. He tied the game at 2-2 and then the Leafs took the lead after but the Capitals tied it in the third. This did not stop the team from trying as they went through TWO overtimes until Kapanen finally lifted his team from another loss and sent them home on a high note. He was rightfully named First Star of the Game. Charlie McAvoyMcAvoy played his first NHL game this week in the playoffs. Yes. That's right. He never played a game in the NHL until the playoffs. What a way to get acquainted! What was also unusual about this was that he played 24:11 minutes and was the third rookie to play that many minutes this century. He did not get tired from that game either and ramped it up to 27:47 last night. McAvoy came in from Boston University this year to play with the Bruins. Brandon MontourMontour's role on the Ducks has become more important during this time as the team still has injuries to deal with on the blue line. Thankfully, Montour is doing well in his more prominent role and even got his first point in the playoffs last night-- an assist on the first goal scored by Jakob Silfverberg. Montour was named Third Star of the Game for his efforts on defense and offense.
Time to see if home ice advantage actually helps out the road teams that lost in the last two games. It's also time for those road teams to come home and maybe use that home crowd to help them get a 3-0 lead. Today's Schedule: Yesterday's Scores: Wow. The Blackhawks actually had one more shot on goal in this game too. One thing that set them apart was that the Predators had 4 penalty minutes, compared to the Blackhawks' 16. Also, Pekka Rinne was on fire with 30 saves AND two assists. Is that even legal?! Maybe in Chicago it is... Ducks survived missed calls and several scrums vs. Calgary. This matchup is beginning to look similar to a rivalry because it has all the bad components that make up a rivalry, including injuries caused by the opposing team. Leafs!!!!!!!! They did it!!!!!!!!! They won the game!!!!!! Off to Toronto they go to arrive to the biggest party in Canada! OT decides the winner because the full 60 minutes sure can't. Definitely a good and thrilling way for the Senators to win their first playoff game so far.
Final day of the regular season! Let's do this! Playoffs: Who still needs to clinch? St. John's IceCaps need 2 points and Charlotte Checkers need 1 point while defending Calder Cup Champion Cleveland Monsters need 2 points but they have no games left so it looks like Charlotte will make it tonight. St. John's can hopefully end their final season in the playoffs and not in the regular season.
We're on primetime for some of today's games! Let's celebrate with these 4 games at different times of the day! Eastern Conference: Does Boston take the second game at home or will the Sens Army come back again and tie it up. It was a close one last time but the Capitals held on! Will the Leafs come back even better and prove that being very young is not a huge obstacle? Western Conference: After holding on at home, will the Ducks continue to take control of their games against the Flames? Or will they become even more aggressive and respond back. Will the Blackhawks tie it up before they head to Smashville? Or will the Preds continue to spoil the home cooking for them. Yesterday's Scores:
