Heard about the new sports being added but don't know ALL of them? Don't worry, you're in good company! Here's a list of what sports are now in for the Summer Games in 2020:
Other added events from long before:
Women's Teams South Korea (Host Country) United States Canada Finland Russia Sweden Switzerland Japan Men's Teams South Korea (Host Country) United States Canada Finland Russia Sweden Czech Republic Switzerland Slovakia Slovenia Germany Norway This should be interesting!
We have cure* for you! The closest you can get to watching the Olympics (without rewatching them) is the Paralympics. When: September 7-18 What events? Who's Competing: More than 170 countries are participating! Feel like Winter sports are more your thing? The World Cup of Hockey is beginning soon and it is definitely exciting because it is an early start to hockey season! When: September 17- October 1 Who's Playing? Or maybe international competitions are not your thing and football is! When: Thursday, September 8 at 8:30 pm ET (regular season). First game is Carolina at Denver! Preseason is going on right now! Or you can watch baseball because why miss out on this great sport?! The playoff race heats up more and more each day and it gets better to watch. Don't believe me? Just watch a Wild Card team and then you will see why it's so great. *Not an actual cure but it's the best we have because post-Olympic blues is a serious issue.
Here's your golden opportunity!! Even if you missed some of the first quarter, you still will see some good action towards the end.
The end is when everything heats up because that's when people get tired or maybe even wired with that gold on their minds. Just want to congratulate the German women team on being the first gold medalist in their country's soccer history! Maybe the men will take their hint and win tomorrow against Brazil and make it a double gold in soccer. Also to Sweden on advancing the farthest they have in Olympic history! Silver is not what they were playing for but they still made their country proud. Keep your heads up because every medal looks good. And then to Canada on winning bronze with their young team and legendary captain, Christine Sinclair! Canada is proud of this team because of how far they go in tournaments! Proud of all these athletes who worked extremely hard to be here! You are all loved by your countries!
These Olympics have been amazing so far and will continue to be because we still have the rest of this week!
It's been great to see the legends doing what we all hoped for them to do. Age does not matter when you have the rare talent that these Olympians have. Being very young does not make you slower from inexperience because we have seen teenagers dominate in swimming. If these teenagers are able to do well at their young age, hopefully they will continue to dominate when they get older and maybe give Phelps a run for his medals. Katie Ledecky is well on her way because she dominated every single race that she was in and won her only silver in a team event. Another person who has pure talent is Penny Oleksiak. If a team allows a 16 year old to join and compete for the Olympic team, then she must be one of the best in the country. Not only was she the best for her country but she proved to be among the best in the world for her events. Neither have entered college yet but they will continue to be on the top of the swim world and will take a shot at breaking records in the medal counts. Remember that Phelps never won a medal in his first Olympics at age 15 but Ledecky did. She already has a leg up in that department. Aging legends also have delivered their message of going out as the best. We all think of Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt and they are truly winning these Olympics. Some may say that Phelps still could have some good years after these Olympics and go to Tokyo but he wants to be done and start a new journey. Bolt already planned his last race for next year at the World Championships and people are not questioning it because track has a very short life span. It's very hard to stay that fast because aging and injuries really take a toll on your body when you run. Track is a hard sport on the body because it breaks you down as the season wears on so his retirement is mostly probable. Make sure to enjoy every moment that Bolt runs this Olympics because it may be the last forever. We may see him again at Tokyo but it could be as a broadcaster. We are truly spoiled to see him run right now. We enjoyed every moment of Phelps swimming and we hope to see what he does next. These athletes have not been short of wow. Good news: both Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will swim tonight in the 200m individual medley at 10:01 ET.
This will be the last time the two will race against each other at the Olympics unless they come back next time around but that might not happen since Lochte is 32 and Phelps is 31 right now. More swimming finals today include: women's 200 m breaststroke, women's 100 m freestyle, and men's 200 m backstroke. It's going to be a great night for swimming! Have a great viewing day and remember to find more events streaming live at nbcolympics.com! **Reminder that at 3 pm ET the men's gymnastics all-around final will begin. The U.S. men's basketball team will play Serbia at 2:30 pm ET. Great news!!! The Women's Gymnastics Team Final is today!
Prime time coverage will be on around 8/7c on NBC but you can watch live RIGHT NOW. Also, the Canadian Women's Soccer team is playing Germany right now on NBCSN and the U.S. Women's Soccer team will be playing Colombia at 6 pm ET on NBCSN. Serena Williams will be playing Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) in the third round of the singles tournament at 5:45 pm ET. |
