"... All setters are thinking, 'I want to get the point for once!' When setters can go up and take a rip at the ball and hang with the big dogs, it's kind of fun." -Kelly Hunter, on if a setter would brag about a perfect set. "It doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman, soccer belongs to all of us, and we all love it for the same reasons." -Paola Kuri Six geese a-laying! Welcome to the Six for Christmas!! Here's what the teams want this year: *They also want to win it all too!!
But seriously, it's hard to imagine the Jays without Bautista and Encarnación. What world would it be without them there? “When we won two days ago [my mom] said, ‘Bring one home for the family’. To be able to share the Stanford experience with her is something I can’t put into words.” -Kelsey Humphreys, after winning the NCAA championship in volleyball. FIVE GOLDEN RINGS! featuring the Final Five Simone BilesFive women, including this one, have won four gold medals in a single Olympics. She may have four golden medals and not five, but she's in great company and may be the best gymnast of all time. I think that she is the fifth golden medal herself. Want to do something nice this Christmas for others? Ms. Biles shared this wonderful tweet on how to help out foster children this holiday season! They need you more than ever right now so please help! Laurie HernandezJoy to the world! Laurie has come! One of America's new sweethearts killed it in the competition this summer by winning silver on the beam and helping the team win gold by dominating that same event. Gabby DouglasThe two-time Olympian did what few thought she could do this year: come back to the games. Though people criticized her performance (and nearly everything that she did), she still remains the nice and talented girl who won over the world in 2012. Douglas' mission now is to combat online bullying and encouraging others to take the pledge to not hurt on others. It's always better to be nice, not naughty. Madison KocianWhat does Kocian want for Christmas? The Dallas Morning News said she only wants a spa day. Who could blame her after winning gold with the team and silver on the bars? Did I also mention that she's currently training for the upcoming season for college gymnastics at UCLA? That also means that she probably had exams and papers due around this time... She definitely needs rest because she's one of the hardest working gymnasts out there (which says a lot). Aly RaismanJust like Douglas, Raisman came back (at age 22!!) and had one of the best floor routines ever. Once she showed up to the floor, people realized that age meant nothing. Raisman deserved all the attention and respect this year because she has given this sport continuous love and dedication for years. Gift IdeasHave a Final Five fan in your life? Or you want to share what you want for Christmas with others? Look no further because we have you covered from Simone fans to Aly fans! For the Simone fans: Her autobiography is a great choice! You can find this at book stores and online (if you want to avoid the chaos of this time). For the Laurie fans: Sadly, our girl's book won't be out until January BUT you can pre-order the book now! You may not get the physical book in time for Christmas, but the holiday can extend itself to January when it finally comes in! For the Gabby fans: You have two books to choose from and a movie! I've only read "Grace, Gold & Glory" but I really like it! Whichever book you choose you will get quality. Unfortunately the Barbie doll released in her likeness was one-of-a-kind. Dang it! For the Madison fans: How about tickets to see her in person? UCLA is starting their season soon so this is the perfect time to see her. For the Aly fans: Socks!! Raisman's sock line is so great you have to get them! The Monday Friday pair is probably my choice but there are other good selections that were designed by the gymnast herself. For fans of the entire team:
Can't make up your mind because the entire team is awesome? No problem! Good news is that Amazon sells a coloring book for the entire team! Not only will you enjoy seeing unique pictures of the girls on your wall or fridge, but you also will relieve stress! Streaks are back and you can bet I will investigate this one! Are the Flyers on a hot streak? It sure is sunny in Philadelphia right now (shout out to one of my favourite shows) as the Flyers are in a historic winning streak (it's been 31 years!!!). They are most definitely hoping to beat their franchise best of 13 games in 1985 and if they get to the point of 13, they should appropriately blast the song '1985' because it's necessary. Also, I really hope I'm not jinxing them! HypothesesNull: The Flyers have the SAME ability as they have all season to win games. Alternative: The Flyers have a GREATER ability to win games during this streak. SimulationFor this simulation, I put down 'S' or 'F' to represent the win or loss for the record of 19-10-3 this season. The test statistic was 10 since we are looking to see if they can get a streak of 10 or more in 200 trials. Five results had a streak of 10 or more, which means that the p-value is 2.5%! ConclusionIt is plausible to conclude that the alternative hypothesis is correct and the Flyers have a hot streak right now. Why are they so good? Here's what NHL.com said: First off, Jakub Voracek, Brayden Schenn, and Wayne Simmonds all rock right now so that helps a lot. Steve Mason is killing it in goal and raised his save percentage to .905! Also, defense is strong with Ivan Provorov leading the way and helping the team survive through all the games won by only one goal in this 10 win streak. This is a rare time, so please enjoy it while it lasts and watch the team take on Dallas today at 2 pm ET (Tip: You may want to check if the app Fox Sports Go is streaming the game since Dallas is part of Fox Sports. You will have to listen to the Dallas broadcast, but it's free!). ***UpdateI jinxed it.
I'm sorry about this, Philadelphia. "I feel like through martial arts I'm able to face my fears head on. It makes me not run away from challenges in life. I'm able to transfer [my martial arts training] over to other challenges. To be able to conquer your fears is the best feeling in the world." -Michelle Waterson Four Calling Birds! Atlanta FalconsTalk about a throwback song! The audio may be weird but it's from 1980! Pittsburgh PenguinsI know this is from last year and I posted last year but it's still good to share! Baltimore OriolesThis is one of those nice videos that make you feel good inside! Baltimore RavensMaybe you would call this the finale of the four birds? Once I saw this, I had to share it!!
I love Christmas albums... "Misty May -- kind of the typical volleyball role model. She always played with such passion and fire. But also Erin Martin, an outside hitter who used to play for the Gophers. I would go to games at the [Sports Pavilion] when I was really young, and just looked up to her so much because she played with such energy." -Samantha Seliger-Swanson, on her volleyball role models growing up. |
AuthorHi, I'm Jenna and I'm a sports fan! I've been avidly watching sports since 2011 because I found that by watching sports, I would be able to communicate with my dad and brother better. Ever since I got into sports, I've been able to enjoy myself more when I go to sporting events with my family. Archives
