"In India, there are women whose voices are silenced from 6,000 years of culture that tells them to be quiet. It's the mentality -- vinamra in Hindi -- that means a woman must be soft-spoken, respectful and never talk back. If she cannot scream, the whistle becomes her voice." -Megha Vora Today's investigation will take a look into the NFL's top defense right now, including their average yards given up per game and how they stack up against the rest of the league.
What is a confidence interval again?: A series of simulations to see how close a team or athlete is to their ability. These are 95% accurate, and today's involves two means that are featured above. Confidence Interval Results: The Jaguars have the ability to allow more than 219.12 yards away while allowing less than 339.62 at home. Z-Scores for Total Yards Given Up: League Average for Yards Given Up- 3093.47 Jacksonville's Z-Score: -1.53 (2572 yards) Why this is good: Jacksonville is 1.53 standard deviations away from the league-average, which is as far as it gets for the league. To put this into perspective, the worst defense (Indianapolis Colts) is 2.24 standard deviations above what a team should give up for yardage. Jacksonville's defense gives up an average of 14.9 points per game while Cleveland's offense scores about 15.9 points per game. It could swing in Jacksonville's favor, or Cleveland could stop the three-game win streak tomorrow.
"Sometimes, there were days where I didn't want to run. I'd be tired, I didn't want to do this anymore, and it always felt like people showed up at the right time... It was a reminder to me not to give up. My mission needed to be finished." -Sandra Villines "I rarely regret past decisions. I would rather cherish the moment in the present; It's really been great for me so far." -Chen Yue "Family's everything to me, I mean I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. They pushed me to do everything that I possibly can. They're so proud of me for getting the chance to play, not just to play for their country, but to play for my heritage for the first time, so I'm pretty proud to represent for them as well." -Raecene McGregor "[My father is] a difficult person. It's hard to communicate with him. It's hard to talk with him and … come to any middle ground... I think you get to a stage in your life when, you know, you're not even 20 anymore, you're getting older and I just don't have kind of the energy really for things like that. You don't need certain things in your life." -Jelena Dokic Hello, everyone! It's been two weeks since we last looked at stats, but this is back! "I would rather my teammates and my classmates see me as the best first captain they've ever seen rather than the first black, female first captain they've ever seen. It's great -- don't get me wrong -- but my duty is to serve the corps, so I have to focus on that." -Simone Askew "It's a little uncomfortable. I feel -- 'objectified' is too strong of a word -- but I think the bigger issue with being inspirational is it's kind of passive. It's like, 'OK, cool you're inspired, now what?' I'd rather someone see me and be like, 'Cool, I'm psyched to go climb on my own now.'" -Maureen Beck "For me, overcoming fear is the most gratifying experience out of like riding waves or having these highs and lows. The overcoming something that is really scary...you feel really empowered." -Paige Alms |
AuthorHi, I'm Jenna and I'm a sports fan! I've been avidly watching sports since 2011 because I found that by watching sports, I would be able to communicate with my dad and brother better. Ever since I got into sports, I've been able to enjoy myself more when I go to sporting events with my family. Archives
