Last year's event:Will we see the same guy in this video win it tonight? Or will we see Wil win it? What about the veteran of 4 appearances? Or the guy going against him with the longest home run this season? How about the guy who has hit the 5th longest home run in Petco Park history? Or maybe the man who has the most home runs this season? Maybe someone from Cincinnati will win it again? Or the youngest out of everyone there?
No matter what, someone will be surprised by the winner. “Ten years of my life working hard for this moment, I feel amazing!” -Amanda Nunes The new UFC Bantamweight Title Holder.
"I don't think about anything other than, my job is to be a gladiator. It's time to kill or be killed and either you're going to do it or not. That's my only concern." -Julianna Peña “After feeling the gender bias for so many years, we all decided to open a foundation solely dedicated to the women players of Ladakh. Every time we have a match, we run around asking the men for equipment. We would wear and play in their equipment even if they were oversized for us. From my personal experience, [this is] not a good feeling. We don’t want our future women players to experience what we faced.” -Noor Jahan "It would be something historic for Mexico, and perhaps even for Latin America, if a Mexican player played in the CWHL. I think that players could emerge [if they played] there. That’s where my interest lies. I’ll do whatever I can to promote and support ice hockey in my country." -Claudia Téllez "Sports helped me to escape the jaws of narrow gender norms well enough to see myself on my own terms, more than other girls I knew who seemed largely defined by them." -Denice Frohman "I always said, if we would really have to postpone it, then it will be like dream come true because nothing better could happen to me in my tennis career. It's no problem to postpone a wedding one week after, and it will be even more enjoyable." -Dominika Cibulkova Happy Fourth of July! "Having another life in your hands is a little terrifying. Most crashes aren’t fatal, but you’ve heard of ones that are. That’s always in the back of a pilot’s mind. You’re now in control of everything, and you have to learn from your mistakes — and try and figure out the track quickly so you don’t make those mistakes again." -Shauna ROHbock, Utah Army National Guard Veteran Happy Fourth of July everyone!!! I hope your day is interesting and happy because today is a celebration of the United States of America. Enjoy some barbecue and watermelon as we discuss some of the top Americans in each sport! BaseballMike TroutVery fitting to have the Millville Meteor (few to none in Anaheim call him that) on as a top American baseball player. Yes, New Jersey is known for interesting reality shows and strange headlines, but it is also the home state to Trout. He is a fantastic baseball player and an even better person. He is a great American and will take care of his fans by signing autographs before games. Also, he will put on a good performance because he's consistent. He ranks among the top players because he's not a usually streaky player; he isn't known for one good month, he is fairly equal in all months. Stats:
BasketballLeBron JamesIt would be a crime to not include this man on here! He loves his hometown and the city where he plays. He definitely loves America but he especially loves Northeast Ohio. His championship this year was dedicated to that region because it had been 52 years since they won a championship! Honestly, the entire story of his season this year would make one of the best Hollywood movies ever. The fact that it actually happened blows us all away. We won't see him compete in the Olympics this year, but after that performance, does he really need to win us over anymore? Breanna StewartThis woman is outstanding. People thought she was crazy when she wanted to win national titles with the University of Connecticut all the four years she was there. What did she do? Exactly what she said. First pick in the WNBA and now a star forward for the Seattle Storm. She delivers and does not disappoint. Take notes, everyone else! Stewart will be on the Olympic team this summer and will try to add a gold medal to her growing list of accomplishments. FootballCam NewtonYes We Cam, America! The MVP hails from the South (Georgia, to be exact!) and shows it with his manners. The All-American quarterback dominated in the 2015 season and had to be named MVP because few compared. He was nearly perfect in the regular season and got past his 1-2 playoff record by winning 2 games against Seattle and Arizona and led his team to the first Super Bowl since 2004. In the off season, Newton can be seen on Friday nights on Nickelodeon's Kicking It With Cam. He has a naturally playful side and interacts very well with children, which is a good reason why he appeals to the younger generation so much. He is a true American hero because he gives football a good name. HockeyAuston MatthewsThink it's too soon to feature Matthews as a top American? I don't think so since the United States has waited since 2007 for an American to be first overall in the NHL Draft. Matthews is a great player because he played in both the World Junior Championship in January and then moved up with the more experienced players in the World Championship this May. Did we mention that he led the team, full of NHL players, with 9 points (6 G, 9A)? Did we also mention that he's from Scottsdale, Arizona? If you don't know much about Scottsdale, let's just say that it's not a typical hockey town and it is more known for golf courses and spring training facilities for baseball. We hope that Matthews does well in the North with the Leafs and we also want to see him contribute to Team North America in the World Cup in September! He has a lot going on at the moment and we can only enjoy the ride! Amanda KesselWhat a year in hockey for the Kessel family! This girl overcomes being sidelined for lingering concussion symptoms and wins a national title with her Minnesota Golden Gophers! In the final game, she scored the game winning goal and became a national champion.
After she won it all, she signed with the NWHL's New York Riveters and became the highest paid player with a salary of $26,000. We all probably know her brother Phil and we got to witness the proud family moment when he finally won the Stanley Cup this June. The Kessels are dominating hockey and they are Americans! Keep taking over hockey because we love the Kessel family! |
