"Training for the [Boston] marathon is hard, but the fundraising, though so important, is almost a second (third, fourth, fifth) job. But we try and live our lives by the adage, 'When you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence.'" -Megan Birch-McMichael "I've seen sports movies, and I've seen movies about women growing up, but not about a female athlete growing up. We specifically wanted to [highlight] what the experience of a female distance runner is like [in my new movie], which is a very body focused sport." -Alexi Pappas "It's so competitive and it's such an honor to be here [with the U.S. National Team] that taking even one camp, or one day, for granted would be a mistake." -Samantha Mewis "The emotional aspect to the transition [of going from one sport to the next] is the biggest part for me. Coming so close to winning a national championship, being on a team for seven months and buying in to what that team is all about, to quickly jumping into the middle of another season with all different people is the hardest part. With that said, the coaches and my teammates on the lacrosse team make it way easier than it really should be." -Kenzie Kent, hockey and lacrosse player at Boston College. "I knew Hil[ary Knight] was right behind me. When you have the best player in the world behind you, you get her the puck." -Kendall Coyne, on assisting the gold winning goal by Hilary Knight for the U.S. Congratulations to Team USA on winning gold at the Women's Worlds on home ice!

"Among that chaos in my life, that's when I really found fitness and started to embrace that I am a strong female, physically. I wasn't meant to be skinny." -Ashley Horner "I've been on a huge personal mission over the past decade for my voice -- external and internal -- to be a positive one and to show others that shift can radically change their mentality and performance." -Deena Kastor "I haven't missed many games... When we had the All-Star Game in 2014, I broke my left arm about 2 1/2 weeks before the game. I can play without the left hand, you know. I almost only use my right hand and my foot. I thought I could do it. I remember asking my husband to please come along with me (to the park) to see if I could play "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" on the organ. I could. I played "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" for the All-Star Game, which was a huge thrill because they hardly ever say my name, but they did that day. They said, 'Join Twins organist Sue Nelson in the singing of baseball's national anthem, 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game.' That was exciting." -Sue Nelson |
AuthorHi, I'm Jenna and I'm a sports fan! I've been avidly watching sports since 2011 because I found that by watching sports, I would be able to communicate with my dad and brother better. Ever since I got into sports, I've been able to enjoy myself more when I go to sporting events with my family. Archives
