Election day is tomorrow (We're almost done!!) but instead of getting political, I'll continue to talk about sports because those are fun and I need to stay in my own lane. Anyways!! The finalists for the biggest awards in baseball were announced today by the Baseball Writers' Association of America and I cannot be more excited!! The recipients will be announced on November 14-17 so make sure to be alert (like you would if you sat near the foul pole). Who is nomimated for each award? This is the last of the World Series, I swear!! This also marks the end of the photos of the week since the 2016 season has concluded. Hope you enjoy some of the moments from Game 7 to the parade!
Harry Caray was right, "Someday the Cubs will win a World Series."
But what he did not say was that they would WIN the World Series and end a 108 year streak. The most heartbreaking and oldest story in baseball has finally been given a happy ending. All the years of torture and losing ended as Kris Bryant gave the last out to Anthony Rizzo (our favourite power couple at it again!) and the curse was broken. Much like Sleeping Beauty, everything was once again perfect in the land after the eternal sleep ended. Congratulations to the 2016 Chicago Cubs for doing what many thought was impossible years before. This year was finally it for them and it may take some time to soak in but it is a wonderful thing to think about. The hard work and the years full of jeers are over now because the rings will now come in with a red 'C' and Chicago on them. I am so sorry for what happened last night. This team gave it their all and that was all that could be done. It is sad to see this team empty-handed because they deserved better. This loss was devastating to watch.
Some things to remember about this team was that they put up a great fight when others thought they would not go far against the team with the best record. They did not care that they were not America's pick for the World Series and they used that as motivation. The 108 year wait is over.
The Chicago Cubs are the 2016 World Series Champions. What. A. Game. What. A. Series. Facts about Game 7 (found on cleveland.com and espn.com):
Home teams vs. away teams are 19-18 all time in the World Series. In the last 10 games, 9 of the winners were the home team (but the last 1 was an away team!). 4 of the past 6 games have been one-run games Both teams are a combined 0-2. Kyle Hendricks is in a 15 inning scoreless streak, which ties the longest for a pitcher in this situation. Corey Kluber can be the first pitcher to start AND win games 1,4, and 7. |
