We have ourselves another crazy day in the playoff race and this one will be the defining one. Only two days left in the regular season (I know it's sad!) and most playoff-bound teams are playing today. We will know more about seeding after today and we might know who will enter the playoffs in the East.
Here are each team's ways of getting in and their game times: Red Wings (NOW) If they win against the Rangers in regulation or OT win, they clinch a playoff berth. If they win in a shootout, they will clinch if any of the following occurs: (1) The Boston Bruins lose to the Ottawa Senators in any way; (2) Bruins defeat Senators in a shootout; (3) Flyers lose to Penguins in any way. They cannot be eliminated with shootout win. If they lose in OT or shootout, can clinch playoff berth if any of the following occurs: (1) Bruins lose to Senators in any fashion; (2) Flyers lose to Penguins in regulation. They cannot be eliminated with OT/shootout loss. With regulation loss, will clinch playoff berth if: (1) Bruins lose to Senators in regulation. Will be eliminated if all of the following occur: (1) Bruins get at least one point against Senators; (2) Flyers defeat Penguins in any fashion. So, please just win today but not in a shootout! Bruins (NOW) Of they win in regulation or OT, will clinch playoff berth if any of the following occurs: (1) Red Wings lose to Rangers in any fashion; (2) Red Wings defeat Rangers in a shootout; (3) Flyers lose to Penguins in any fashion. Will be eliminated if all of the following occur: (1) Red Wings get at least one point against Rangers; (2) Bruins get at least one point against Senators. So, just don't lose! (Which isn't very easy but good luck!) Here's how the teams who have already clinched can get a better seeding and determine their opponent: Islanders (7:30 PM ET) Can clinch the third seed in the Metropolitan if they win ANY way and the Rangers lose to the Wings in ANY way. If they lose in OT or shootout, they can still clinch if Rangers lose in regulation. They will be a wild card if they lose and the Rangers win in any way. Rangers (NOW) Can clinch third seed if they win in any way and the Islanders lose in regulation. Cannot be third seed if they lose in any way. Stars (8 PM ET) Can clinch first seed and Central Division if they win in ANY way against Nashville. If they lose in OT or shootout, they can still clinch if Blues lose to Capitals in ANY way. If Blues win in regulation, they cannot be first seed. If they lose in regulation, they can only clinch if the Blues lose in regulation. They cannot clinch if the Blues get one point. Blues (8 PM ET) With regulation/OT/shootout win, will clinch Central Division and No. 1 seed in Western Conference if: (1) Stars lose to Predators in any fashion. Cannot be first seed if Stars beat Predators in ANY way. With OT/shootout loss, will clinch Central Division and No. 1 seed in Western Conference if: (1) Stars lose to Predators in regulation. Will be No. 2 seed in Central Division if: (1) Stars get at least one point against Predators. With regulation loss, will be No. 2 seed in Central Division. Kings (10 PM ET) With ANY win, will clinch Pacific Division title. With OT/shootout loss, will clinch Pacific Division title if: (1) Ducks lose to Colorado Avalanche in any fashion. With regulation loss, will clinch Pacific Division title if: (1) Ducks lose to Avalanche in regulation. Ducks (5:30 PM ET) With ANY win, cannot clinch Pacific Division title. Will clinch No. 2 seed in Pacific Division if: (1) Kings defeat Jets in any fashion. With OT/shootout loss, will be No. 2 seed in Pacific Division if: (1) Kings get at least one point against Jets. With regulation loss, will be No. 2 seed in Pacific Division. Thanks to NHL.com for these scenarios and great job to the people who come up with these formulas! Good luck to all your teams today!
