Who dat? HistoryThe Saints were founded in 1966 and began play in 1967 at Tulane Stadium. They were named after the strong Catholic influence in New Orleans and the song "When the Saints Go Marching In" became their fight song. It wasn't until 1987 that they had their first winning season and playoff appearance. They went to the playoffs in 1990-92 and won their first ever playoff game in 2000. Hurricane Katrina hurt their stadium and for the 2005 season they had to use different stadiums in Baton Rouge and San Antonio. The return to their home in 2006 was a major event that they won in a blowout. Better things came for the team in 2009 when they had their best record in history and went to their first Super Bowl. Of course, some of you may remember that game because it is their only Super Bowl and it was won against the undefeated Colts with star quarterback Peyton Manning. Currently, the team has been in and out of the playoffs and their last playoff appearance was in 2013, as a wild card. We'll see what they can do this year! Pro Football Hall of FameFun Fact: Archie Manning was drafted by the Saints in 1971 and became a star there. He raised his family in New Orleans, including famous sons Peyton and Eli Manning.Story behind Who Dat?TodayThe Saints are celebrating their 50th season and will stick with longtime quarterback Drew Brees. They are hoping to get another Super Bowl (like all of us!) and will try to brush off the past seasons' mistakes.
