“I think playing sports is important for boys and girls, but particularly for young girls. We have all these gender norms, and girls aren’t taught the same lessons. You know, boys are leaders and spunky; girls are bossy and annoying. Girls aren’t taught to compete or be competitive, nor are they praised for excelling.
