“I’ve always been fairly big, and there weren’t any girls to take me on. I’ve always had to spar with men in training. You can’t imagine how many times they took me down but losing made me stronger mentally." -Idalys Ortiz "This is such an honour, I would have never imagined myself carrying the flag at the Games when I started swimming. We saw some great performances for our team and many people deserve this. So many legends have done it. I'm thrilled that I'm part of history." -Aurélie Rivard How sad that great things have to come to an end. This was a great Games and I am glad that the athletes were able to make their countries proud. It was sad to see Iran lose a cyclist and I wish that major media outlets would not show the Games but we did what we could to showcase these athletes.
“It’s been very special considering some stuff’s happened to me lately. So I think this has just changed it all. It’s taken everything away. It’s just made me really happy.” -Tiffany Thomas Kane The Paralympics are ending today and here is what you can expect from the last day. A rare event will happen; the games will actually be aired on NBC in the morning and we hope that you use the opportunity to watch them.
Please keep Bahman Golbarnezhad's family and his country in your prayers today.
We lost the cyclist from Iram today as he crashed in his road race at the Paralympics and suffered from cardiac arrest. He was only 48 years old. This was the first reported death at the Paralympics and we hope to never see another one. We are deeply sorry to Iran for this loss. “When my parents saw [my horse Athene] in competition at Hickstead, they said they could hear the gasp of the competition when she walked in. She is that kind of horse. If she loses marks, it is my fault.” -Sophie Christiansen “The energy from the people around me, the spectators, the people who wanted me to win – all this energy affected me and that was what helped me. I’m very happy, I’m so happy. I’m so tired and all this work from the past two, three months has been weighing heavily on my shoulders." -Zahra Nemati, archery gold medalist. And the U.S. let Ukraine take off... oops. On the bright side, Brazil is sixth! Hooray for the host nation! It's always great to see countries that don't usually dominate in the Olympics dominate here (unless you're China or Great Britain and you're great at both!). I hope that these athletes will come home to welcoming fans because they deserve the love too! Want more of the Paralympics? Check out our Pinterest board! AuthorHi, I'm Jenna and I'm a sports fan! I've been avidly watching sports since 2011 because I found that by watching sports, I would be able to communicate with my dad and brother better. Ever since I got into sports, I've been able to enjoy myself more when I go to sporting events with my family. Archives
